Toot toot!

No, I didn't just fart...I'm tooting my own horn cause lookie what I made! I just finished this brithday crown for Wyatt's 4th birthday (April 21). I saw another lady who had done one of these but it was super fancy, for a wedding. And I was determined to make one of my own version for Wyatt and figured if it went well I would make a new one for every birthday from here on out. Anyway, it wasn't quite as easy as I thought it would be. It went through several stages and lots of redo moments. I finally had my Ah ha moment this morning before I picked up Wyatt from school. Anyway, here are the photos of Wyatt wearing his new crown (he loves it) and the crown by itself. Keep in mind, it has a very sturdy base and is 'fixed' in a rounded position to fit his head. It is open in the back and tied together with ribbon to adjust for head size. There are lots of 'jewels' and glitter and the inside is covered in vintage Little Red Caboose book pages. Hope you all like it.

Dog likes bath, with kid.

Yep, Wyatt hopped in for a bath tonight and Zoe was crying for him so I decided to put her in with him. She loved it. I had time to scrub her down and she sat in the back and drank water (see photo) she even stayed in while I left the room to get the camera. I don't think we will make this a habit, bathing them together like that. Dirty dogs don't make for clean bath water.

A quick update

Zoe is doing well. She has taken to our home like a fish to water. She sleeps with Wyatt every night and when I get her up in the morning (she sleeps all night long) she goes out, pees and then comes in and lays back down with Wyatt until he gets up. She doesn't like going into her kennel but after she does and I leave the house, she falls asleep. I just love her to pieces. She has been so well behaved and gets along well with all dogs her size, so far.
I visited my friend Lindsay Ostrom today. She is in the process of writing a new book. Many of you have seen her stuff at Michaels and WalMart. She does lettering and doodling books and has also designed letter stickers and rubber stamps. In fact, one of her rubber stamps is named after Wyatt and it is a cute drawing of a dog that looks a lot like Zoe. Anyway, she is working on a new book on hand lettering and doodling and asked me to make some samples of for her new book. I went to pick up my 'fonts' from her and I can't wait to get started. This will be the perfect weekend to get the project done because Wyatt is gone and I have lots of new photos of Wyatt and Zoe to use as my subject. Also, I asked her if I could use some of her drawings as the basis for my new rug hooking projects. I have been doing rug hooking since before Wyatt was born and have made several rugs. I haven't worked on any projects for quite some time but just got rejuvinated into the craft and thought her designs would make some cute whimsical things. Anyway, more on that to come because she gave me the thumbs up to proceed full steam ahead. Also I picked up some new fabric for some quilts I'm trying to finish up so photos of those to be comign real soon. I hope all of you are well. Take care.

Dog previously known as Sally

Is now being called Zoe. It is pronounced with a long e at the end, not rhyming with toe, but toe-y. We need it to be easy to spell so we don't have a 'y' at the end. And mainly just because with my name ending in y and Wyatt having a y in his name, I just will simply run short of y stickers in my alphabet packs. Here the two of them are at the park yesterday when she was still being referred to as Sally. She was playing tug of war with Wyatt's jeans. Mom, don't be mad, these are last years jeans and I told her to stop before they tore. So now Wyatt and Zoe are asleep on the couch together and in 45 minutes we have to leave for the vet for her first check up and they will see if she has worms. Yum! She's already had her first puppy shots but she is due for the second and for some perverse reason, Wyatt can't wait to watch her get the shot. Anyway, other than that, not much to report from here. I have a few projects I'm wrapping up and a few projects just in the starting stages. I went to a quilt show this last Friday and got some new patterns to try. I have a ton of fabric here to work with so I'm getting started cutting into some of my stash. This next one I'm really excited about because it is from one of my favorite designers and the fabric is mainly all blues, creams and browns. My favorites. It looks like it will be pretty big when it is finished so now I actually get to make and keep a quilt for myself. It's been so long because I keep giving them away! Well, my next post will have some more photos and some pictures of some of my recently completed work and also some sneak peaks of my WIP (work in progress). Love!

Here she is...our new puppy, Sally. I've been without a dog for quite sometime now. Dan got rid of Nani and I hadn't seen her since the night of my accident on March 17, 2007. Then Shooter went to live with Dan's parents and luckily, they are completely smitten with him. Rocket was hit by a car a killed late last year while living with the Farnworth family and Lucy, who was supposed to be my 'pocket dog' was always Dan's dog and had zero love for me. So since I moved into the apartment I've been going by the pound to look for a new dog. Well I guess with all the liability they wouldn't release a dog to anyone with small children and small is anyone under seven! So try as we might, no needy dogs for us. So this weekend I looked in the paper and found someone selling Jack Russell puppies with a 'rough' coat. Rough or broken coated dogs are shaggier and longer fur then their smooth coated counterparts. I prefer the rough because they look more ragged like Rocky did. So this family had 3 puppies left in this litter (they had another littler that was born three weeks ago too) and two females were broken and one male was smooth. It was a toss up between the male (which I wanted) and the female who was broken coated. So as soon as I got there this face is what greeted me. The other female was sold before I got there. This one looks so much like a younger Rocky did. I of course fell instantly in love. So we brought her home and I broke the news to my mom. She of course is such a naysayer. Always has something negative to say about getting and owning a dog. But I fugured I might as well get it over with and let her know. So we hadn't decided on a name. I had a few picked out for a boy, Frito Pie, Levi and of course Jack. But with a girl I had no idea. And I always pick weird and unusual names. I suggested Roxy to Wyatt and he just kept thinking I was saying Rock See. He didn't get it so he suggested Tree-See. Oh well. Then he suggested Sock Puppet. That wasn't going to work either. I hated to fall back on the usual dog names like Maggie and Molly. I wanted kate Spade after my love affair for her handbags and shoes but I think I'd be the only one who got that. So Wyatt and I were walking her last night and he suggested Sally. I don't know how it came up but somehow it stuck and she actually seemed to respond to it. Well, I'd better sign off and go check on her and Wyatt. Too much quite so that worries me. Talk to you soon.

Enchilada kind of day.

Thursdays are usually reserved for taking Wyatt to school and getting some last minute things done around the house before he goes over to Dan's. Well this week is a little screwed up because of Christmas and he came home last night from Dan's. He opened all his gifts and then went to bed. Instead of taking him to school today I decided to let him stay home to play. He has a whole living room full of trains. And here we are at 1:30 in the afternoon and he's still in his Christmas jammies. Oh well. I decided to make enchiladas today for lunch and I have to say, this is my best batch yet. They weren't over cooked and they are just the right amount of saucy. I'm now thinking of starting a new craft project. It's so much more exciting starting a new one rather than finishing up an old one (boring!). I went to JoAnn's last night to pick up some yarn, a crochet hook and a beginner's book on crocheting. You see my stepdad Bill's aunt and grandmother crochet these blankets for gifts. It's a real nice gesture but they use that real icky Red Heart yarn which shrinks up to nothing in the wash and itches real bad. Plus they are about the size of one of my thighs. So I think I'm going to attempt to make some afghans for Christmas next year. You see I have 363 days left until Christmas next year and I figure that's enough time to learn to crochet and get a few afghans under my belt. Of course this year I planned on making tons of quilts and other things for Christmas only to get to Christmas morning having made one tree skirt and one table runner. Boring! SO hopefully this will be the year I get things done.
